About Me

Hi my name is Marisa and I have always found it hard to talk about myself so I tried to think of questions that would help me let you know about me.

Who is Marisa and why a quilt garden?

I am a mom, a business woman, part time worker and someone who loves sewing and is passionate about quilting. When I was thinking about starting this blog I pondered over what name I should choose. I have always loved gardens, even though I am not a gardener. I remembered an episode of Simply Quilts I watched were Alex Anderson took us to a quilt show in Livermore, California called Quilting in the Garden where quilts were displayed throughout the gardens at Alden Lane Nursery. I liked the idea so that’s where the concept of the name Marisa’s Quilt Garden was born.

How long have you been quilting?

I have been quilting since 2002

How did you get started?

Well my very first quilts were just quilted baby blanket panels that I sewed trim on when I was pregnant with my daughter. However, as I wrote in one of my post I officially began making quilts during a Girl Scout Quilt Weekend held by my local Girl Scout council. Many adults (ladies) who participated in various capacities with the council (I was a leader at the time) signed up and attended this quilt weekend. The levels of quilting experience varied and at that particular one I was the newbie. I learned a lot from those ladies and even gained a Friendship Quilt (as of yet unfinished) in the process.

What or who was/is your inspiration?

I guess I can honestly say that I was inspired buy Eleanor Burns. I use to watch her PBS program Quilt in a Day and was fascinated by what she was doing. I have since found inspiration in various people, places, things, concepts, and ideas but I would have to say it was the show Quilt in a Day that got the ball rolling.

Why did you create this blog?

Quilting is a passion for me that I lost for a time due to many personal things that took place in my life, but through this blog I have gained it back. I created this blog for me to have an outlet for my creativity. I don’t know how much traffic I will get on it and to be honest it really doesn’t matter to me. If you like what you see keep coming back if you don’t thanks for stopping by.

My quilts are designed from inside me. I may take me some time to work out the concept that is in my head. My level is what I describe as an experienced beginner still as I am still learning a lot of things in the quilting world. With this blog I will be sharing some things such as patterns or concepts that may or may not be new to visitors, all I ask is to be kind and understand the level I am working at.

I do take well to constructive suggestions or helpful tips but I will not tolerate destructive, berating comments. No one needs those. I look at it this way this is my blog for my creative outlet and no one has the right to take that away from me. Ok we go a little serious there. The bottom line is let’s keep it fun.

I thank you for stopping by and I hope that you will continue to come back.
